Wil joined us in January 2018 and has had a whirl-wind introduction to life at EY-Seren.
“I thought I’d get a week or so to find my way around and ease myself in, but the team has been in such high demand that I didn’t get the chance! I’m currently managing nine projects, but it’s nice to have the pace. That’s one huge benefit of working in conjunction with EY: the demand doesn’t ebb. The variety is staggering and it’s great for my portfolio.”
Wil started his career as a graphic designer but quickly realised his passion lay in animation.
“I’m very lucky. I basically have my favourite hobby as a job.”
For Wil the draw of EY-Seren was in the opportunity to establish and grow a team. Unlike with other agencies, the demand for work is so high that a permanent headcount is a must.
“I have wanted to take on the responsibility for growing and developing a team for a while, but sometimes it can be hard to find that opportunity in traditional agencies as so much time is spent pitching for work and the demand can be unstable. At EY-Seren this isn’t the case. I still work with contractors, which is good because animation benefits from the input of different perspectives, but a good proportion of my time is dedicated to building a permanent team and I’m getting a lot of satisfaction out of the experience.”
Outside of work Wil has lots of passion projects. His favourite is working on is an animation of the BBC’s Planet Earth.
“I love Planet Earth and thought it would look amazing as an animation. I tried it out on one scene and it looked so impressive, so now I’m continuing with the rest of the episodes. It’s long and painstaking work, but the end result is special.”
